There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing Megan excited and pumped about the church plant and ministry in general. This morning she shared with me what she was reflecting on in Deuteronomy 1:26-33.
In the passage, the people of God were afraid to take the land promised by God because the inhabitants seemed “greater and taller.” Basically, they were the Columbus Crew challenging the Brazil national team to a soccer match and the loser would be killed and enslaved. (Yes, I just dropped a soccer illustration.)
God commands them to not be afraid. He reminds them that, “the Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you . . . and carry you, as a man carries his son.”
What a humbling and comforting reminder to know that God will fight for and carry us like a father. I pray that Megan and I will not buy into the myth that we have to pull everything off in our own strength rather than resting in the Lord. Furthermore, I hope we live courageous and bold lives knowing that God is calling us to bare witness to the transforming reality of Jesus Christ.
